These cards of admission were to lectures held at the University of Pennsylvania, St. George's Hospital (London), and the University of Edinburgh. Rush has written comments on the lecturers on the backs of several of the cards.

In this volume Rush comments on persons and events of the time, mentioning Robert Walsh, John Vaughan, Lafayette, James Rush, Peter S. Du Ponceau, and William Currie. Rush also comments on the Franklin Institute, and the American Philosophical Society.

These photostats of letters were collected from various repositories by Lyman H. Butterfield for his book, "Letters of Benjamin Rush" 2 v. American Philosophical Society Memoirs 30(1951). Some of the topics discussed are Philadelphia and United States politics, slavery, Afro-American churches, and medicine.
